I actually took a whole day off and did nothing around the home front
except relax, go on the computer, and watch TV all day. I really
do need a couple days off from the physical work to heal my hands more
than anything. Right now I am looking at breaking up some old
cement footings from the old shed. I have been cleaning up the
area that the shed used to be in which involved pulling lots of border
weeds, grass, and other miscell. stuff. I also moved all the 4x6
and 4x4's I had staged in back of the old shed to another location in
preparation for working on the back fence. Tuesday the plumber and
counter top people will be back to relocate the faucet to center
position of the two sinks. Presently it is located in the overall center
of the sink and it doesn't reach the right hand sink like it should.
Minor fubar, easy fix, so not an issue.

Contractor work is now completed in the kitchen and it looks and functions
great. Now onto the next and final part of the kitchen which will
involve a little bit of electrical work, baseboards, and finishing up
the cabinet staining.
Wife came into the room and congratulated me on our 1st year anniversary.
I did not realize it but it has now been a solid year since we retired.
It does feel great having that first year behind us especially with
the thoughts of having many more years ahead to pursue our goals &
dreams, which by the way will never stop.
Did we get what we wanted to
get done in the first year. I have to say no, but I say that with
very little disappointment. I would like to have taken a bit more time
for traveling. I also gained another year on my age which is
easier to deal with being retired. Actually it just means I am a
couple years away from a couple other benefits which are still yet to
come my way from all the years working.
We are actually ahead of where I thought we would be on the home remodel
to date. We will be working on it in between travels. Not
a lot to do, it is just staying in one place long enough to get it done.

I snuck by another birthday and the funny bone is still active. I
contacted the group that ok's you to dig without the worry of hitting
any utility lines underground. That is a big issue around here.
It was funny talking to the gal that answered the phone and having to
answer all the questions that they have to ask you. You would
think I was a major contractor with an enormous job to do. Now
mind you all I want to do is replace all my existing fence posts which
are in reality proven previous digs. But, you still have to go
through the process so, I was patient and answered all the questions.
The one that really struck my funny bone was this question, are you going to
hand excavate or will you be using a vacuum? I told her that the
wife would not let me use her vacuum so I would do it by hand. All
my power, phone, and cable lines are overhead yet they sent a guy out to
tell me that. Sooooo, I politely thanked him after he filled out
his report. More to come I'm sure. Oh ya, I almost forgot.
I had to put a stake beside each fence post to show where I am going to
dig and mark each stake. LOL and still LOL.

Three hundred MPH wind fence? Maybe just a little over engineered?
I have been very busy this past week with completing 90% of my back
fence repairs by installing nine (9) 2-3/8"X 8ft. galvanized posts.
Actually all the poles are in and they are cemented in place now. Wow!
what a job that was. I had to dig down two feet and encountered
many different size rocks and tree roots. The hardest part was
breaking up the cement in front of the existing posts so I could install
the pipe. How difficult was this? I only managed to install
only 3 poles each day using a large maul, large chisel, post hole
digger, hand trowel, and a crow bar. That along with pouring two
80lb bags of cement in each hole fairly well sums up this job. My
hands are protesting, so I will give them that needed break this week.
I just have to install some lag bolts in the new brackets and new screws
in each of the existing fence boards. It was fascinating (comical
& sad) to see
how many braces were installed on this property, and to see all the
braces in the adjoining neighbors yards that they had put up over the
years. A couple of nice parts to this whole job was I got to meet some nice
neighbors, they both paid their share of the cost of the materials, and
the fence looks great level and straight.

Nothing new to ad except I did finish the back fence and started
cleaning up the mess. My side yard out near the garbage cans is
starting to look like the house next door that you hate to live next to.
All the bags of crap and pieces of broken cement looks like hell even
though I have them in buckets and stacked in uniform order. I am
slowly filling my trash cans each week but it is going to take about
three more good pickups to get rid of it all. For what we pay for
garbage pick up I am not going to pay for an extra dump run. What
else have I got to do with my time. Neighbors can look at it for
another couple weeks. LOL
I would also like to report that my hands are back to
normal and feel great. Wounds from hitting my hands with the
hammer and crow bar are also healing well. Fortunately I did not
hit my head, no spiders fell down my shirt from trees above and I did
not get attacked by killer worms.
As you can see my mental state is slowly being affected with all this
physical work so to stay busy and mentally active for the past few days
I have been building another web site. If you don't think that
won't task your brain cells again, than nothing will. Since we
have bought and sold numerous homes over the years I figured, why not
share some of our knowledge with others that are trying to sell or
buy a home. I will have a section that you can post your home for
sale in. One of the emphasis on that will be, lets help and
supplement the realtor with selling our home. It could also be a
place where others could share some experience and knowledge with us
all. Sound interesting yet?

Nov. 29, 1969 - 2009
Now that was a good year(s). We just celebrated our 40th
Anniversary. We spent the day together and took a nice drive
through the mountains up to Lake Tahoe. Did a little gambling at
state line Nevada, ate lunch and enjoyed sightseeing in the area with
all the snow that recently fell. We made it back home later that
day and went out and had a celebratory dinner at the Cattleman steak
house.

I went for a bike ride today and did a little xmas
shopping. Nothing else to really to chat about today so I believe
I will let this month roll on by and log back in, in December. |
